What are the different caption modes and how do I switch between them?

InnoCaption allows you to choose between captioning by live stenographers (CA) or automated speech recognition (ASR) software.

You can choose between three caption modes on the InnoCaption app:

1. ASR (English or Spanish) - defaults to automated speech recognition software for captioning unless user requests switch to a CA (stenographer) mode during a call
2. CA Priority (English) - defaults to live stenographer (CA), but enables ASR captioning when a live CA is not available
3. CA Only (English) - only uses live stenographer (CA) captioning. In the event a live CA is not available, you may experience a busy signal and incoming calls will be routed to voicemail

For most users, we recommend first trying our ASR caption mode and requesting a switch to a stenographer (CA) if the captioning does not seem to be working well for a given call. If your general preference is to have a live stenographer assist you with captioning your calls, we recommend setting your caption mode to CA Priority mode. This means you will never see a “CA busy” message, even during unexpected call surges, and all of your calls will go through with captioning. If a live stenographer is unavailable at a given time, the speech recognition software will take over temporarily until a live assistant becomes available. Please set your caption mode to CA Priority mode for this backup ASR feature to be enabled.

If you change your caption mode in the Settings tab, it will change your caption mode for all future calls. If you change the caption mode through the Keypad menu, your choice of captioning mode will only last for the duration of your next call. If you want to change the mode for all calls, we suggest you change your preference through the Settings menu.

To switch between caption modes

1. Open the InnoCaption app
2. Select Settings
3. Select Caption Mode
4. Select Default Caption Mode
5. Select your preferred mode
6. Tap Done

OR

1. From the Keypad menu, click on the button at the top right corner, which should say ASR- EN, ASR-ES, CA-P, or CA
2. Select your preferred mode
3. Tap Done

To switch between caption modes during a call

1. During a live call, tap the Caption button on the bottom toolbar, to the right of the end call button
2. Tap your preferred caption mode from the list
3. You will automatically be taken back to the caption screen, and the selected caption mode will be displayed
